For our cookie comparison chart we looked at ingredients and average Amazon reviews for each product listed. Average Amazon ratings for each product are:
Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixes:
- Pamela’s, 4.5
- Bob’s Red Mill, 4.2;
- Betty Crocker, 4.4 and 4.1,
- King Arthur, 4.3,
Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixes:
- Dr Oetker, 2.7 and 3.2,
- Annie's 4.7 and 3
- Foodstirs, 5.
Keep in mind, however, that at the moment, Gluten Free consumers are much more forgiving of bad texture than non-gluten-free consumers. They are used to tolerating bad products. If you read the actual reviews for Pamela's, Bob's, Betty Crocker and King Arthur, you will see comments such as “as close as I know to the real thing” and “gritty but pretty good and serves the purpose” etc. Other reviewers leave comments like they’re gritty, powdery, cake-like or they fall apart or turn hard. This does not equal superior texture by any means, even if they gave it a high rating. Of all the Gluten free options, King Arthur is the only one that achieves a superior texture rating. However, it has a lot of other limitations. Prana Foods is the ONLY option we know of AT ALL that does not call for egg in the recipe. Even Foodstirs, which received generally rave reviews for the cookie mix (the brownie and cake mixes were not as popular) vegan reviewers had to figure out how to add an egg substitute.
